Robert Kroetsch was born in Heisler, Alberta and has lived, worked, taught and
written in many places including a riverboat on the MacKenzie River, universities
in New York State, Manitoba and in Calgary. While he was the Distinguished Visiting
Writer in the University of Calgary's Markin-Flanagan Distinguished Writers Programme
he resided in the house previously owned by the Calgary artist John Snow, a house
whose creative occupant provided inspiration for this beautiful poem.
