Within the framework of Calgary's changing cityscape it has often been the case that well-known buildings and people places have been replaced with people "spaces". Such is the case with the block directly across from Old City Hall on Macleod Trail, now known as Olympic Plaza. This block was once filled with a diversity of office buildings, shops and hotels, including the first site of the Calgary Herald, a post office and a laundry.

This aerial view of Calgary (CalA PP-01395) taken around 1963 offers us one of the last looks at the buildings in this block where the walls were witness to a variety of customers and clientele before the space became a public park.
