New Provincial Archivist appointed
Leslie Latta-Guthrie

Edmonton - Leslie Latta-Guthrie has been appointed as the new Archivist for the Provincial Archives of Alberta, effective December 20, 2004.

Latta-Guthrie's career has encompassed a wide range of experience in municipal government and post secondary operations that includes archival planning and development, public library operations and services, as well as museum heritage collections. Her most recent position was as the City of Edmonton Archivist. She also currently serves as a volunteer board member of the Archives Society of Alberta and has provided consultation services to the Edmonton Historical Board.

Latta-Guthrie completed her undergraduate and graduate degree at the University of Lethbridge, as well as a Master of Library Science at the University of Alberta. She is known as a creative strategic planner, an excellent communicator with an extensive background in collection services.

The search for a new archivist became necessary following the sudden passing of Dr. Sandra Thomson, in July 2004.

The Provincial Archives of Alberta is located at 8555 Roper Road in Edmonton. The new state-of-the art facility includes 20 vaults, a reading room for public use, and is the only provincial archives in Canada to house all of its records in one location.
