Grants Committee Annual Report
Submitted by Leslie Latta-Guthrie, Chair, May 2002

The Grants Committee for 2002-2003 consisted of the following members: Karen Buckley, Tonia Fanella and Jason Pearce of Calgary; Judy Kovacs and Leslie Latta-Guthrie, Chair (from December 2002 on) of Edmonton; and Brock Silversides, Chair (to December 2002) of Medicine Hat. Michael Gourlie played a major role in assisting and guiding committee deliberations, as a non-voting member.

During 2002-2003, a total of $236,437.39 was awarded for 49 projects that benefit 17 institutions across Alberta. A round of Archives Network of Alberta (ANA) grants was adjudicated in October 2002. In early January 2003, the committee met in Calgary to adjudicate six categories of grants including a second round of ANA grants. Prior to meeting, committee members completed scoring sheets for each grant application received. During the meeting, the scores were averaged and the projects ranked. Every effort was made to distribute the available funding as widely as possible throughout the membership, to include as many institutions as possible and to have a balance both geographically and between large and small institutions. During 2002-2003, a total of $236,437.39 was awarded for 49 projects that benefit 17 institutions across Alberta.

The Grants Committee gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the Alberta Historical Resources Foundation, the Alberta Centennial Legacies Program and the Canadian Council of Archives in assisting the ASA's efforts to preserve and make available Alberta's documentary heritage.
