Archives Network of Alberta News

Our databases continue to grow and flourish as new contributions are sent in by our members.

1. ANA database of fonds-level descriptions

The ANA database currently contains over 7200 descriptions. Contributions of new fonds descriptions have recently been received from the following institutions:

  • Canadian Architectural Archives
  • City of Calgary Archives
  • City of Edmonton Archives
  • City of Wetaskiwin Archives
  • Glenbow Archives
  • Jasper-Yellowhead Museum and Archives
  • Jewish Archives and Historical Society
  • Provincial Archives of Alberta
  • Red Deer and District Archives
  • University of Alberta Archives

In addition, a significant number of revisions have been completed, as institutional members have completed a review of their existing descriptions. Many of the inconsistencies identified in Marlene van Ballegooie's report, A Measure of Compliance: A Review of the Archives Network of Alberta (ANA) Database (April 2001) have been corrected.

2. Alberta InSight
Our photograph database also continues to grow, and it currently contains over 5000 images from 12 different institutions. Recent contributions have been received from:

  • City of Wetaskiwin Archives
  • Jasper-Yellowhead Museum and Archives
  • Legal Archives Society of Alberta
  • Millet and District Museum and Archives

You may have noticed that we have recently made some changes in Alberta InSight. We have added a line at the top of the Search Results page to indicate that users should click on the thumbnail image to obtain more information. We have moved the Description field so that it now displays next to the image, and added the Physical Description field so that it displays next to the image. Other new developments are in the works - stay tuned! These changes are a result of feedback that we have received from our members, so if you have any suggestions, please do not hesitate to let me know.
