Education Committee Report, 2001-2002

The report of the ASA Education Review Committee, The Archives Society of Alberta Education Program: A Blueprint for the Future, 1999-2002, recommended that:
fundamental archival education be delivered in a six-day intensive "institute";
- Special Topics Workshops be offered to supplement the fundamental education and provide continuing professional education opportunities to more experienced archivists; and
- A one-day course titled "Archives Awareness" be created to highlight archival issues for museums and other organizations which are responsible for archival material but do not have an archival program in place.
To meet these objectives, the Committee undertook the following activities in 2001-2002:
Fundamental Archival Education
The main activity of the Education Committee for 2001-2002 was to continue to implement the recommended and approved changes to the delivery of the core education programme. The bulk of the Committee's efforts this year focused on analyzing the Education Institutes that were held in 2000 and 2001 and determining whether this delivery method would continue in the future.
The analysis of the Institute model demonstrated that it was an effective method of providing basic archival education. While the Institute's effectiveness should be reviewed on occasion, the Committee recommends that the Institute model continue to be used to delivery fundamental archival education.
In addition to the Institute, the ASA offered the following courses in 2001-2002:
