Communications Committee Annual Report
Submitted by Kirsten Olson, Co-Chair, June 2002
The 2001 Communications Committee included Marlena Wyman, Rick Klumpenhouwer and Kirsten Olson with assistance from Kathryn Ivany, Michael Gourlie and Carrie Herrick. Rick Klumpenhouwer was replaced part way through the year by Melissa Lowenberg.
The theme for Archives Week 2001 was "Extreme Archives". All institutional members were contacted and encouraged to participate in the Virtual Exhibit as well as develop events of their own. We were very pleased that 13 institutions sent contributions to Susan Kooyman of the Glenbow Archives for the "Extreme Archives" virtual exhibit held on the ASA website. Entries included examples of extreme weather conditions, extreme acts of bravery and extreme sports. A luncheon to mark the beginning of Archives Week was held on October 1st, 2001. Dr, Terry Cook was the featured speaker and presented the talk "Extremes: Archives at the Edge".
New membership for the year 2001/2002 included five new Individual members, two Institutional members, and two Associate Institutional members. Membership currently stands at 106 Individual, 33 Institutional and 17 Associate Institutional members. ASA also has 33 complimentary memberships, which include sister organizations and heritage organizations.
We look forward to working together on the upcoming Archives Week 2002 as well as developing new ways to extend the profile of the Archives Society of Alberta.
