Editor's Comment

To those of you who don't know me, I am Don (Recycled-to-serve-you-better) Bourdon, your new ASA Newsletter Editor. I have had the pleasure of working with many of you since the inception of the ASA, both as an individual member and as the representative of a high-altitude institution. Although I have served in a number of roles from ASA President on down to Grants Committee Ogre, I have never worked as your editor, so please bear with me.

It seems to me that the ASA's strength lies in its dual roles: the advocate of individual professionals and collective of organizations, where both groups can share in new innovations and affirm the fundamentals of our profession. I hope this newsletter will reflect this duality and I encourage you to contribute timely and topical items about both your organization and your individual calling.

I strongly encourage members to speak to your colleagues through this bulletin. In fact, I will gladly forfeit the customary "Editorial" (not "Rant") slot in favour of pertinent observations from members. Institutional articles are usually easier to obtain and I expect those to keep coming. Be warned: if the pickings are slim in either department, you can be sure I will be giving you a personal call.

Thank you to all who have contributed to this issue!
