The Provincial Archives of Alberta is pleased to announce the appointment of a University of Calgary Historical Resources Intern to the Government Records Section. Sharry Watsone has been appointed to this position and will serve as Government Records (Project) Archivist. Her role at the Provincial Archives will be parallel to existing Government Records Archivists. This is a one-year appointment with an option for renewal.

Sharry received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with honours graduating magna cum laude from the University of Saskatchewan. In May of 2000, she received a Master in Archival Studies from the University of British Columbia. Her archival experience includes work with the Vancouver City Archives and the National Archives of Canada. Previous to this appointment, Sharry was under contract to the Provincial Archives of Alberta working in the Government Records Section.

Eileen Hendy has resigned from Athabasca University to accept a position as FOIP Advisor with the Information Management and Privacy Branch of the Alberta Government. Timothy Busch will be the contact person at Athabasca University until her replacement is hired.

The City of Calgary Archives is pleased to announce that Lisa Beitel has joined the staff as Archivist. Lisa comes to us as a recent graduate from the School of Library, Archival and Information Studies programme at the University of British Columbia and will be with us for at least a year, replacing Regina Landwehr who is on a 12 month maternity and parental leave. The Archives is also pleased to announce the birth of Sonja Magdalena on April 23, first child of Regina Landwehr and Wendell Koenig. Staff at the City of Calgary Archives plan to involve Sonja in archival activities as quickly as possible. When ready, her first task will be to handle the daily shredding!

The Saskatchewan Council for Archives adn Archivists (SCAA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Kathlyn Szalasznyj to the position of Outreach Archivist. Kathlyn a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan wher she copleted her BA, BEd, and MA in history. Her archival experience includes contract work with the City of Saskatoon Archives and seven years with the Saskatchewan Archives Board (SAB). Kathlyn is a past editor of Saskatchewan History, the award-winning historical journal published by the SAB. She has experience as a researcher of historical buildings , a U of S lecturer and writer.

The 2001 annual general meeting of the Saskatchewan Council for Archives and Archivists (SCAA) was held at the Main Library, University of Saskatchewan on 12 May 2001.

The SCAA elected its new executive. This executive consists of:

Treasurer - Tim Hutchinson, University of Saskatchewan
