NEWSLETTER September 1997 Volume 17 Number 2 PUBLIC AWARENESS AND ADVOCACY COMMITTEE SUGGESTS POSTCARD BLITZsubmitted by Michael Dawe As part of our ongoing attempts to heighten public awareness of archives and to promote the valuable work we do, the ASA's Public Awareness and Advocacy Committee would like to suggest the following unique idea: Send postcards to provincial or local politicians or other opinion leaders, using an image of them from your collections. If you don't have a photo of them, perhaps you have an image of one of their family members or ancestors. Hopefully, using such a photo on the postcard will attract these politicians' and opinion-leaders' attention. It may get them interested in your archives by establishing a personal connection and may even encourage them to help promote archives and the importance of archival preservation. For more information on this suggestion, please feel free to contact Michael Dawe at 403-309-8403, fax 403-342-6644, or Michael Gourlie, the ASA Archives Advisor at 403-433-8496, fax 403-988-6849. |
