NEWSLETTER March 1997 Volume 16 Number 4 NEW COPYRIGHT LAW WOULD BE RESTRICTIVETo the Editor: I think it is quite wrong to assume that a new restrictive copyright law will not damage the interests of researchers in Canada. It's not that you'll be sued for making a copy, it's that the archives you are using as a researcher will simply prevent you from making a copy so as to protect themselves under the law. It is unfortunate that such a restrictive law is being enacted, especially as it won't really increase the income of the poor struggling writer Atwood is trying to help. Bruce Grainger |
