March 1997    Volume 16 Number 4

by Brian Corbett

The sure sign of a vibrant community is one which is constantly changing. Nothing offers more challenging opportunities than personnel turnover.

Recently, the Executive regretfully accepted the resignation of Eileen Hendy, Institutional Member at Large, and Wayne Murdock, Individual Member at Large. Eileen cited increased workload with new responsibilities for developing the FOIPP strategy for Athabasca University as the reason for her inability to continue with her duties as an Executive member. Wayne Murdock recently accepted the position of Team Leader, Government Records at the Provincial Archives of Alberta. As a consequence, regrettably he is unable to continue as a member of the Executive. The ASA Executive bids farewell to these two outstanding individuals who have made such a significant contribution to the archival community in Alberta. We are confident that they will return in the not too distant future to the service of their colleagues.

The ASA Executive welcomes Carolyn Hill as our new Institutional Member at Large. Carolyn has served the institutional members with distinction in this capacity in the past. The Executive is confident that she will bring her positive attitude and hard work to the Executive during the remaining months of her term. The Executive also welcomes Rick Klumpenhouwer as the Society's new Individual Member at Large. Rick, currently the Chair of the Education Committee, has served the archival community in various capacities over the last several years, including the Presidency of the Alberta Society of Archivists. Rick's term of office extends to the Spring of 1998. The Executive is confident that Rick will devote his creativity and energy to the affairs of the Society. Welcome Carolyn and Rick!

The Executive has accepted the resignation of the Society's Archives Advisor, Elizabeth Denham. Elizabeth will continue on a part time basis as Archives Advisor after 15 March until 15 May or the hiring of a replacement. Elizabeth has served our members well over the past two years with distinction. She has decided to pursue her consulting business in archives and records management. The Executive joins with the members of the Archives Society of Alberta in wishing Elizabeth all the best in her future endeavours.

Finally, but not least, the Executive wishes to welcome Terry Delorme as the Society's new Administrative Coordinator. Terry brings a number of years administrative experience to the Society. She has served in various capacities at the Caritas Health Group in Edmonton, the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, and the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, B.C. She is currently working part-time at the University of Alberta Hospital. Recently Terry completed the Alberta Medical Archives Survey for the three hospitals in the Caritas Health Group. She has completed the Introduction to Archives course offered by the Society.

Once again to those leaving the Society (for however briefly that might be), best wishes. For those joining the Executive and staff congratulations and welcome.
