UNITED CHURCH SEEKS ARCHIVIST

The Alberta and Northwest Territories Conference of the United Church of Canada is seeking a part-time archivist to administer its archives and work with congregations and volunteers in promotional and advisory capacities. The Conference archives are currently housed by agreement in the Provincial Archives of Alberta.

The archivist would co-ordinate the acquisition and processing of appropriate records and assist researchers to use the material, in co-operation with the Provincial Archives staff liaison and PAA policy. He/She would also provide professional advice and assistance to the church regarding archival preservation and use, in conjunction with the Conference Historical Sites and Archives Committee.

The United Church is seeking a person with an undergraduate or graduate degree in a related field, with preference for archival specialization or courses and 3 to 5 years' archival experience. The candidate should have a knowledge of related church/social institutions. He/She should have research, communication, computer (word processing and data base management), teaching, and volunteer supervision skills. Familiarity with the Provincial Archives of Alberta would also be an asset. The Archivist would be accountable to the Conference through the Historical Sites and Archives Committee and to the Provincial Archives through its staff liaison.

An honorarium is provided to compensate for 1 1/2 to 2 days per week on a ten month basis.

Interested persons are asked to write to the Executive Secretary, Alberta and Northwest Conference, 9911 - 48 Avenue, Edmonton AB T6E 5V6 (phone 403-435-3995; fax 403-438-3317). Application deadline is October 23, 1996, with a start date of January 1, 1997.
