PEOPLE AND PLACES

The ASA Newsletter's productive Edmonton correspondent, Liana Haynes became the mother of Noemi Haynes on June 9. Noemi's proud father is Gary and her brother is Peter.

Another potential member of the next generation of archivists is Zackary Simon Garnier Plettl, born on May 27 to Andrea Garnier and Bill Plettl. "We're having lots of fun with him," says his happy mom.

Karen Buckley has recently accepted a new position as Records Centre Coordinator for the Vice Presidents' Suite at the University of Calgary.

The University of Alberta Archives has been busy preparing for the application of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. It has been developing its electronic records strategy and policy, and will soon produce its Guide to Aboriginal Sources. It has completed inventories to the fonds of Alberta educator John Charyk and the records of the University's Technical Services and Photographic Services. Recent accessions include the papers of publisher Mel Hurtig and of constitutional scholar J. P. Meekison, as well as the records of Nexus Theatre and Theatre Network.

Bon voyage to Leanne Wescott-Henry, the ASA's former Administrative Assistant. Leanne has been transferred to Houston, Texas by her present employer, Merak Projects Ltd.

When we saw the artistic creations of Provincial Archives of Alberta archivist Marlena Wyman, we were impressed. Her works were exhibited at the Triangle Gallery in Calgary in a group exhibition entitled "Brutal: 7 Edmonton Artists".

At the Medicine Hat Museum and Art Gallery Archives, Special Projects Worker Janet Jarvis is engaged in processing the records of the Medicine Hat Rotary Club (1918-1993) and developing an Emergency Preparedness Plan. The Archives has acquired the records of Medicine Hat Musical Theatre and the photograph collection of local photographer Jim Simpson. The imminent transfer of Council and committee minutes and by-law records from the City of Medicine Hat is expected to strengthen the relationship between the Archives and the City.
