On a cold day in January 1963, workers of Poole Construction autographed a two-by-four while building the stage of a 210-seat circular auditorium that occupied the centre of the sixth floor of the W.R. Castell Central Library in downtown Calgary. When the stage was torn down in 1996, the autographed portion of the piece of wood was salvaged. It now rests in the Archives just a few feet from its original home on the stage. The inscription reads: Built on Jan. 9, 1963, by Poole Co. Workers, 4man Ken Byers, Ludwig Splett, A. Niemi, 13 below; 5" fresh snow.
