Kristoffer Bakken was a painter and decorator with a style of his own. Born in Norway, he came to Alberta about 1910, and worked as an interior decorator in Wetaskiwin and Calgary. While working at a job for Central Creameries in Calgary, he was inspired to take up the slippery and exacting art of butter sculpturing. His sculptures were displayed at the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, the Edmonton fair, in Vancouver and Victoria, and at theatres in Calgary. His elaborate artworks depicted everything from buffalo to the Prince of Wales. He won many medals and prizes for his work.
