Alan D. Ridge Publications Award

The award is named in honour of Alan D. Ridge, Provincial Archivist of Alberta from 1968-1984. His active involvement in archives and records management in England, Canada, and the United States has provided leadership and stimulation to the archival community in Alberta and beyond.

The award is given to recognize and reward those who have published material of a high quality and scholarly nature which promotes, discusses, or analyses topics relevant to the archival profession.

Awards
  • Cash Award - One cash prize of $250 or prizes of varying amounts
  • Special Award of Merit
Eligibility of Entrants
  • Member of the archival or related profession such as: an employee or volunteer in a recognized archival institution; an archivist emeritus; a student in a recognized program of archival studies; or an administrator of a recognized archival institution.
  • Resident of the Province of Alberta.
  • Consideration may be given to non-residents who write on topics specific to archives in Alberta.
Types of Publications Eligible
  • A scholarly work of research, opinion, analysis, etc. on some aspect of archives studies, records management, archival institutions, or the archival profession.
  • Such a work may take the form of a book, brochure, manual, pamphlet, or article in a periodical, journal, or other such publication, which has general and public distribution.
  • Eligible material must have been published in the preceding 24 months, prior to January 1st of the current year.
Judging
  • The works submitted shall be judged by a Committee of three past presidents.
  • Judges cannot consider works which they have either written or to which they have given substantial direct assistance.
  • In judging, consideration will be given to the quality of the work, the depth of its supporting research, the extent of its distribution, and the freshness of its approach.
  • Judging to be completed by March 31 of each year.
  • Award will be made at the Annual General Meeting of the Archives Society of Alberta.
