Professional photography series. -- 1900-1955. – ca.11000 photographs (ca.4945 prints, ca.5345 negatives, ca.680 transparencies). – 6 photograph albums (378 prints). – 4 cm of textual records. -- Series consists of five sub-series: A. Standard photographs, 1903-1954, ca.8290 photographs, 6 photograph albums (1. Guiding trips, 2. Subjects); B. Panoramas, [ca.1910-ca.1955], ca.2000 photographs; C. Transparencies, [ca.1930-ca.1955], ca.680 photographs (1. Dufaycolor, 2. Kodachrome); D. Textual records, 1915-1954, 4 cm. (1. General, 1915-1954,  2. Dufaycolor, 1940-1943).  Subjects categories of standard photographs include the following categories established by the photographer: sheep, bear, deer, elk and moose, birds and nests, fish and fishing, flowers, snakes and insects, pack trains and horses, camps, hunting and climbing scenes, mountains, landscape, Waterton Lakes, ranch, [Twin Butte], dogs, Pincher, portraits / oldtimers, copies, rifles, interiors, geology and fossils. – Constitutes series III of the Bert Riggall fonds.

Guiding trip photographs. -- 1909-1950. -- ca.2800 photographs (ca.1200 prints, ca.1600 negatives). -- 6 photograph albums (378 prints) -- Standard photographs pertain to reconnaisance trips with partner Cyril Watmough, 1909-1911, and with clients, 1907-1950, in particular with four families (Bennett, Crosby, Bovey and McKnight families), their relatives and friends, who made many trips with Riggall starting in 1913. -- Title based on contents of s-s-series. -- Negative extent is based on assumption that a negative exists for each image in print form. Negatives are 9.5cm x 12cm and smaller. Some negatives have imprint captions and are marked "Riggall Photo" -- Negatives donated by John Russell and Dale Burton. -- File arrangement by trip / client was developed by the archivist. -- Location : V26 / III.A.1. - 1 to 41.

 

Photographs by subject. -- 1903-1954. -- ca.5490 photographs (ca.2745 prints, ca.2745 negatives) -- Standard photographs pertain to landscape, hunting, trapping, gunsmithing, camps, clients, family and friends, wildlife and fauna. Wildlife subjects include animals in their habitats, as well as hunting trophies. Portraits / old timers include numerous Waterton and Twin Butte families, packers and pioneers, as well as friends of the Riggalls. -- Title based on contents of sub-series. -- Negatives are 9.5cm x 12cm and smaller. Some negatives have imprint captions and are marked "Riggall Photo" -- Negatives donated by John Russell and Dale Burton. -- Arrangement is based on a subject filing scheme developed by the photographer. One category (Twin Butte} added by the archivist. -- Location : V26 / III.A.2. - 1 to 25.

 

Panorama photographs. -- [ca.1910s-ca.1955] -- ca.2200 photographs (ca.1000 prints, ca.1000 negatives) : 9.5 x 30 cm and smaller. -- Files consist of views produced in the course of Riggall's guiding, hunting, naturalist and photography activities. Images are primarily mountain and high alpine views in and around Waterton Lakes National Park; Glacier National Park (Montana); continental divide of British Columbia and Alberta; prairie views east of Waterton. Includes Riggall homes and home ranch, Hawk's Nest lodge, Waterton townsite and surrounding areas in Waterton Lakes National Park, vicinities of Twin Butte and Pincher Creek; backcountry hunting and fishing trips, clients, camps, horses, climbing, parties on summits and views from same; South Kootenay Pass, Akamina-Kishenina areas, Oldman River Valley including gap in the Livingstone Range, South Castle and West Castle areas. Some negatives have imprint captions and are marked "Riggall Photo" -- Title based on contents of files. -- Identifications by the photographer have been supplemented by Doris "Babe" Burton, daughter, in the 1980s and 1990s; and by John Russell, donor and grandson of Bert Riggall, 2000. -- Negatives donated by John Russell and Dale Burton. -- Negatives are 6cm x 17.5cm and 9.5cm x 30cm, taken with Kodak Panoram cameras #1 and #4.

Dufaycolor transparencies. -- [1938-1943] -- ca.500 photographs : transparencies; col. -- Photographs are primarily mountain landscapes, Waterton Lakes region; Twin Butte area landscapes; flora and fauna, especially wildflowers, birds and bird nests; pack trains, client trips and camp views, including sheep hunting, Kishenena, Wall Lake, Kintla Lake and Twin Lakes, northwest branch of the Oldman River, Beehive Mountain and area, Gap district. Includes three #1 panoramas. -- Title based on contents of files. -- Dates based on images and textual records. -- Location : V26 / III.C.1.

 

Kodachrome transparencies. -- [1930s-1950s] -- ca.180 photographs : transparencies; col. -- Photographs pertain to wildflowers, domestic flower studies, Riggalls' Pincher Creek home and environs, British Columbia trip, Carl Austin at Cochrane, Bill Wilson and Barbara (Riggall) Wilson, Burton / Riggall family, Dora Riggall's grave. -- Title based on contents of files. -- Gift of Andy Russell and Dale Burton. -- Location : V26 / III.C.2.

 

Photography papers. -- 1919-1954. -- 3 cm of textual records. -- Records consist of technical notes on cameras, exposures, film, filters, lenses, processing, etc.; shot lists and classification scheme for negatives; information and statements from suppliers re black and white and Kodachrome photography. -- Title based on contents of files. -- Location : M376 / 97, 98.
