Photographs, 1903-1994;  II. Sound recordings, 1977-1985;  III. Textual records, [ca.1887]-1994. -- Fonds includes material on loan. -- Location: M317 / S23 / V488.

I.  Photographs

Photographs series. -- 1903-1994. -- ca.13,000 photographs : prints, negatives, transparencies. -- 7 motion pictures. -- Includes six sub-series:  A. Banff National Park photograph collection, 1903-1965 (predominant 1920s- 1950s);  B. Banff National Park warden service;  C. Lantern slides, [ca.1915-ca.1920];  D. Cave and Basin project, 1981-1985;  E. Other, 1966-1994. -- Title based on accession records. -- Constitutes Series I of the Parks Canada fonds.

 II.  Sound recordings

Sound recordings series. -- 1977-1985. -- ca.55 sound recordings : audio tape cassettes, audio tape reel. -- Series consists of: A. Yoho National Park human history study, 1977, 20 cassettes; B. Memoirs of the Warden Service oral history project, 1984, 15 interviews (29 cassettes), conducted by Maryalice Harvey Stewart, accompanied by report; C. Other, 1980-1985, 3 items, includes rededication ceremonies for Kootenay National Park and for the Park Museum, Banff, also recording pertaining to Castleguard Caves. -- Title based on accession records and accompanying documentation. -- Records are copies of originals held by Parks Canada. -- Reference copies and printed list and tape summaries available. -- Constitutes Series II of the Parks Canada fonds. -- Location : S23.

 

 

III.  Textual records

Textual records series. -- [ca.1887]-1994. -- ca.250 cm of textual records. -- Series consists of unpublished reports and management plans; visitor registers, summit registers, cabin and fire lookout registers (some with photographs); register of pack parties, Banff National Park, 1922-1933; maps and plans, including annotated warden service maps; warden records; surveyor notebooks; and transcripts and ephemera pertaining to ceremonies and events. Reports pertain to archaeological sites and research, national parks history, coal mining in the Bankhead area, predator studies, Cave and Basin, Radium Hot Springs, Ya Ha Tinda Ranch and other sites. -- Title based on accession records.

-- Includes materials in both original and copy form. -- Partial inventory available in printed form. -- Constitutes Series III of the Parks Canada fonds.  Associated records can be found in Rocky Mountains Park fonds (M410).  Alpine hut registers for ACC huts managed for a time by Parks Canada are maintained in Alpine Club of Canada, Hut and clubhouse registers (M200 / I.C.1.). -- Location : M317.
