     Ron Duke fonds. -- [ca.1900, ca.1930-ca.1975]. -- ca.40,000 photographs (ca.38,400 negatives, ca.800 prints, ca.800 transparencies). -- 1 photograph album. -- 3 cm of textual records. -- Ronald Leslie Duke, 1912-1978, was a professional photographer at Banff, Alberta. -- Fonds consists of seven series:  I. Early material;  II. Banff School of Fine Arts and Banff School of Advanced Management;  III. Commercial negatives;  IV. Colour transparencies;  V. Other photographs;  VI. Business records.  Textual records include job registers and documents. -- Fonds includes photographs by Ron Duke and other photographers.

I.  Early material

Early material series. -- [ca.1934-ca.1950] -- ca.3200 photographs : negatives, prints. -- Consists of five sub-series: A. Aircraft prints, ca.1934, ca.160 prints; B. Oil industry material, ca.1935-ca.1939, ca.300 negatives, 11 prints; C. Wartime work, ca.1940-ca.1945, ca.164 negatives; D. Arranged groups, ca.1938- 1951, including numerical series, ca.1938-1948, ca.1200 negatives and ca.160 prints, and subject series, 1949 - 1951, ca.800 negatives; E. Other, ca.1940- ca.1950, ca.1070 photographs. Material in sub-series E pertains to construction at Norquay, 1946-1948, 50 prints and 36 negatives; animals, ca.1947, 14 prints; children's Christmas party, 1947, 22 prints and 13 negatives; and miscellaneous, ca.1940-ca.1950, 258 negatives and 30 prints. -- Title based on contents of series. -- Constitutes Series I of the Ron Duke fonds.

Banff School of Fine Arts and Banff School of Advanced Management series. -- 1951-[ca.1969]. -- ca.2800 photographs : negatives, prints. -- Series includes: A. Banff School of Fine Arts, 1951-1956, 1958-1962, ca.2800 negatives and 46 prints. Includes classes in session, class and instructor group portraits, stage productions, buildings and grounds, exhibitions, events, art works. B. Banff School of Advanced Management, ca.1958-ca.1969, ca.60 negatives; consists mainly of group shots of participants. -- Title based on contents of series. -- Images created before 1958 are attributed to Bill Jamieson, in the employ of George Noble. -- Arranged by year. -- Arrangement outline and job list available. -- Constitutes Series II of the Ron Duke fonds.

B. 35 mm. format, pertaining to Banff School of Fine Arts, 1960s, ca.70 items (building construction, stage production and paintings); travel, 1963, 36 items; and other subjects, 1960s, ca.130 items (Rocky Mountain and Banff scenes, church windows, Scout Jamboree, Mount Royal Hotel interiors, copies of paintings, Banff Indian Days, Indians, store window, miscellaneous views).
