Stay and Study sit-in, University of Alberta at Calgary (UAC), February 1966. UARC 82.010 File 2.24

In February 1966 700 students at the University of Alberta at Calgary (UAC) staged an overnight "Stay and Study" sit-in in the university library to protest what they considered to be inadequate library opening hours. The university administration offered the protesting students Coke and donuts in order 'to allay the sharp edge of tension which was palpably in the air'. The students' protest was successful in lengthening the library's hours; the 'tension' experienced by the Chief Librarian when he learned that food was being distributed in the library was apparently not committed to paper.
