Located on the University of Calgary campus, the Olympic Oval hosted the long track speed skating events. This was the first time in Olympic Winter Games history that speed skating was held indoors and the venue was the first enclosed 400m speed skating oval built in North America. The cost to build the venue was $40 million and was funded by the Government of Canada.
