The exhibition event in Calgary was the second time disabled skiers have competed during the Olympic Winter Games. Disabled competitions were first included at Sarajevo in 1984. Above the knee amputees compete using one ski and two outriggers (stabilisers or poles). Athletes in blind cross-country skiing are aided by guides through a 5km course.
