In 1960 students at UAC decided to install Angelita, a donkey, as principal for a day during World Refugee Day on the campus. "Miss Refugee" was given a ride on Angelita, while funds were raised by students at UAC, Mt Royal College and the Provincial Institute of Technology and Art (now the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) for the World Refugee Cause.
