Jasper's Bears
Bears have been a part of life in and around Jasper long before the area became a National Park in 1907. These magnificent creatures quickly became labelled as nuisances and bloodthirsty predators that should be shot without a second thought. Their offspring, on the other hand, became novelty pets for local residents. Even adult bears, the less ferocious ones of course, were rewarded with all you can eat buffets of scraps from local restaurateurs.
