Archives Unleashed 2007 Virtual ExhibitThe bond between animals and people goes back as far as history itself. Whether animals are a part of our work, entertainment, sport or as companions, there is no mistaking they play a big part in our lives.
Most people have heard of elephants and lions in the zoo or performing in the circus but not many had heard of camels performing in a play. This was the case on October 6th 1948 in downtown Edmonton. The attempt to use a ‘No Parking’ sign in front of the Strand Theatre as a hitching post brought immediate action from the alert city police. The camels were members of the cast of the Passion Play.
