Archives Unleashed 2007 Virtual Exhibit

In 1910 a Metis found two baby moose near Baptiste Lake and gave them to William Day of Colinton, AB. He named them Pete and Nellie, raised them on a bottle and broke them to drive. In 1911 he took them to Edmonton and drove them around the racetrack each day of the Edmonton Exhibition. The next spring they fed the moose frozen potatoes. One died and the other just wasted away, either from the potatoes or loss of its mate.
