Defending the Faith

Manning called for Albertans to have courage throughout many of the 20th century's periods of political, economic and social upheaval throughout his long career with the 'Back to the Bible Hour'. His sermons during the depression touched on the topics of unemployment and faith in adversity. During the Second World War his Christmas addresses encouraged people to think back past the war years to a time of peace. The Cold War prompted Manning to ponder the United Nations problem. Following the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 Manning framed his Christmas message as a sign of joy in the midst of the atomic age.
