Civil Defence Target Area Committee

The Civil Defence Target Area Committee was an advisory committee set up to handle problems faced in planning, training and publicity for civil defence in the metropolitan target area. A good example of their work is seen in the committee's 1961 letter expressing concerns about "Public Warning States and Signals" that was sent to the Coordinator of the Alberta Emergency Measures Organisation.

Created through a recommendation of the Civil Defence Control Committee at their meeting on 1960 March 23, the Civil Defence Target Area Committee was composed of delegates from The City of Calgary, the Town of Bowness, the Town of Montgomery, the Town of Forest Lawn and the Municipal District of Rocky View #44. The formation of this committee was confirmed at the March 31st meeting of the Civil Defence Control Committee. The report on the establishment of the Civil Defence Target Area Committee was received and filed by City Council on 1960 April 11.
